Respect activists in Tower Hamlets, east London, have uncovered evidence of systematic postal vote fraud going on in the borough. Police have been called in to investigate.

Salma Yaqoob wins in Sparkbrook – results for all council wards where Respect candidates stood and mayoral elections in Hackney and Newham. Results will appear as councils delcare on the night of Thursday 4 May or, for councils with mayoral elections, on Friday 5 May.

In the borough of Tower Hamlets in east London, one of Labour’s historic heartlands, Respect has won a significant number of seats, making it a major player in that council. Further gains are expected there and in neighbouring Newham.

No reshuffling of the cabinet, no sackings and no demotions of ministers can hide the fact that Thursday’s local elections were New Labour’s worst performance since it came into being under Tony Blair.

Almost all politicians and most of the media have totally misrepresented the prospects of the fascist British National Party (BNP) at the council elections in Barking & Dagenham. And by exaggerating the BNP’s hold, they have helped the fascists to spread their poison.

Love Music Hate Racism (LMHR) is hosting a rally with music and speakers in Trafalgar Square, London, this Saturday. It aims to encourage young people to reject the fascist British National Party (BNP) at the May elections and celebrate Britain’s multi-racial, multi-faith society.

Dozens of Respect supporters joined a car cavalcade that wove through the streets of Tower Hamlets, east London, last Sunday, capping an Easter weekend of hard campaigning in the borough for the 4 May local elections.

The coalition that makes up Respect is broadening in the run-up to the 4 May council elections. A number of left wing Turkish and Kurdish activists have been selected to stand.

With four weeks to go until the local elections, the Respect campaign in the east London borough of Tower Hamlets is now well under way.

New Labour has admitted it faces heavy losses in the 4 May local elections. Ministers and MPs have been asked to go out and personally deliver the party’s leaflets.

The Operation Khanyisa (Light-Up) movement won a council seat in the Johannesburg region in the recent South African municipal elections. The related Displaced Ratepayers’ Association won three seats in Ekurhuleni – the former East Rand.

The right wing Italian government led by Silvio Berlusconi has suffered a number of defeats since it was elected in 2001. These include local and European elections. There has been a wave of protests against its policies.
