At Britain’s border in Calais and Greece’s border with Macedonia, Europe’s police are using pepper spray, tear gas, batons and riot shields to terrorise desperate refugees.
The police are currently evicting people from the “Jungle” in Calais. They are going round telling people they have one hour to leave. So far this morning, Friday, they have destroyed five or six shelters.
The First World War’s longest battle began 100 years ago this month in Verdun, northern France. By the time it ended in December more than 300,000 had died and many more were missing or wounded.
