Lorry driver Perry Wacker and a Chinese interpreter are on trial for the manslaughter of 58 young Chinese immigrants. Others should be in the dock alongside them-starting with Tony Blair, Jack Straw, William Hague and the major newspaper owners. The 58 people suffocated in the lorry they had been smuggled aboard on a ferry arriving in Dover.

The play The Bogus Woman, written by Kay Adshead and solo performed by Norma Dumezweni, is an extremely powerful and moving political drama. It takes you on a painful journey through the state of the asylum system under New Labour.

There were many important issues that New Labour could have homed in on this week. They included job losses, privatisation, low pay and the state of public services.

Around 250 people marched through Leicester last Saturday in solidarity with asylum seekers following the death of Ramin Khaleghi, the refugee who took his own life two weeks ago.

On 18 January the body of Ramin Khaleghi, a 27 year old Iranian, was discovered in the International Hotel, a hostel housing asylum seekers in Leicester. Ramin had been a political prisoner in Iran for a number of years before managing to flee to Britain.
