Leading anti-war campaigner Cindy Sheehan will be heading up the US delegation to the International Peace Conference for Iraq, set to take place in London on 10 December.

The United Nations (UN) has accused the US military of war crimes in their offensives against towns and cities in western Iraq.

There was scarcely a part of the world where the British Empire did not intervene to draw a line on the map based on ethnic or religious divisions. This led inevitably to conflict even where none had existed before.

George Bush claimed that the US would bring democracy to Iraq and so end the violence there. But as Iraqis voted last weekend, US war planes delivered death from the sky.

Anti-war campaigners from around the world are coming together to discuss their opposition to the current occupation of Iraq. Delegates from the US, Britain and Iraq will come together in solidarity.

The debate over Iraq has shifted significantly over the past few months. The central issue has become the withdrawal of the occupation forces in Iraq.

The US and British occupation is driving Iraq towards disaster by spreading the poison of sectarianism and ethnic divisions.

The Stop the War Coalition is calling for delegates to the first International Peace Conference on 10 December 2005. The conference will bring together anti-war activists from across the globe, including the US, Britain and Iraq.

Recent events in southern Iraq — in particular the "rescue" of two British SAS special forces officers in Basra — have highlighted how the US led occupation is losing its grip even in so called stable areas of the country.

A United Nations (UN) report has revealed that the carnage tearing Iraq apart is being fuelled by the US, Britain and their allies.
