The NEU union has called off a planned three-day strike at Acton High school in Ealing, west London.

The Tories have unveiled plans to hand selective grammar schools £50 million—while slashing funding for state schools. The news has infuriated teachers, parents and education campaigners.

Workers and parents at Avenue school in east London scored a victory this week after school bosses retreated on an academy plan.

NEU union members at Acton High School in Ealing, west London, struck on Tuesday. The walkout follows a 24-hour strike last Thursday and a two-day strike last month.

Workers at Connaught School for Girls in Waltham Forest ended a three-day strike on Thursday in a battle over pay. NEU union members are demanding the higher inner London pay rate at the outer London school.

There was an exuberant mood on the picket line at Avenue primary school in Newham on Tuesday.

Teachers could be heading for a national strike ballot over pay. Delegates at the NUT union conference in Brighton last weekend passed a motion calling on the union to launch a “vigorous campaign” over pay.
