Teachers in the NUT union at Kimberley School in Nottingham began a three-day strike on Monday of this week.

Some 30 teachers in the NUT union picketed outside Kimberley School, Nottinghamshire, when they struck on Wednesday and Thursday of last week.

The NUT teaching union will ballot members for action over pensions, pay and workload from Monday of next week.

The National Shop Stewards Network held its sixth annual conference last Saturday. Speakers included Mark Serwotka, PCS general secretary, and Kevin Courtney, NUT deputy general secretary. Both spoke about their members’ determination to build further coordinated strikes against the government’s attacks on pensions, and further cuts.

Teachers at a north London school took part in the first strike in Britain against a forced academy this week. The NUT union members at Downhills Primary School in Haringey walked out on Tuesday.

The NUT union’s leadership says it will not strike in June but will coordinate action with the NASUWT teaching union in the autumn.

The vote by the National Union of Teachers (NUT) national executive not to call a national strike on pensions in June was a missed opportunity.

The leadership of the NUT teachers’ union last week voted against regional strikes on 10 May and didn’t reaffirm a conference decision to strike in June.
