Workers in the RMT union on London Underground are heading towards a number of disputes. One of them is over management’s plans to close a number of ticket offices and on issues that have arisen from the transfer of Silverlink services to London Overground.

Vote over action at rail company The strike ballot of 600 train guards and drivers in the RMT rail workers’ union at First Great Western is set to end on Thursday of this week.

The RMT rail union held a symbolic funeral outside London’s City Hall on Thursday of last week for the East London tube line – which is due to shut down this Saturday and reopen in 2010 managed by a private consortium. The privatisation plans are being pushed through by London mayor Ken Livingstone.

The victory of the RMT rail workers’ union over the failed Metronet consortium on London Underground is continuing to have effects.

Despite the clear gains made by the RMT in negotiations, management, the media and Ken Livingstone all claimed that the union accepted the same deal that was on the table a week earlier.

Over 800 rail workers in the RMT union at One railway are set to strike on Saturday of this week and Monday of next week, in support of a guard sacked following an incident with a violent and abusive passenger.

Around 200 bus drivers from the Stagecoach depot in Chesterfield held a strike and demonstration on Friday of last week. The action was over pay and was jointly organised by the Unite and RMT unions.

The powerful strike by tube workers on London Underground has forced management to offer the guarantees that workers in the RMT union have been demanding over pensions and job cuts. The union suspended the action on Tuesday evening.

Members of the RMT rail workers union across One railway have voted by more than five to one to strike in support of a guard sacked following an incident with a violent and abusive passenger.

Members of the RMT rail workers’ union on the Bakerloo line of the London Underground struck on Wednesday of last week. They were protesting against management plans to make workers "detraining" passengers at the end of the line do it by themselves rather than with another worker as happens at present.
