The biggest danger of a sectarian "spillover" is in Lebanon. There have been sectarian clashes in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli, close to the border with Syria’s restive cities of Homs and Hama.

Western business interests have arrived in Libya. Lord Green, minister for trade and investment, led a British delegation including representatives of BP and Shell for talks in the capital Tripoli on Monday.

Muammar Gaddafi’s 42-year dictatorship reached its endgame as fighting spread to the streets of Tripoli, the Libyan capital, today (Monday).

The bombing of Libya’s capital Tripoli has intensified. Across Libya, civilians are dying in massive Nato air attacks as well as in bombardments by Gaddafi’s regime.

The British embassy in Tripoli was burned to the ground when news broke that a Nato attack had killed the second youngest of Colonel Gaddafi’s sons, 29-year old Saif al-Arab, and three grandchildren under the age of 12.

The uprising in Libya has spread and deepened across the country. As Socialist Worker goes to press Muammar Gaddafi is only just holding onto the capital Tripoli, and threatens a bloody counter- attack against rebels.

Lebanese soldiers opened fire on a demonstration of Palestinian refugees in the Beddawi camp near Tripoli in northern Lebanon on Friday of last week, killing at least two people and wounding dozens more.

There are growing fears that the Lebanese army’s assault on the refugee camp of Nahr el-Bared near the northern city of Tripoli will become part of a general offensive against Palestinian refugees across Lebanon.
