Scottish teachers in the EIS union are balloting on a new pay offer, with a recommendation to reject.

Workers at 12 colleges across England began a two-day strike on Tuesday to demand more pay. UCU union members at a 13th college, Kendal, will join the strike on Wednesday.

UCU union members at 16 colleges were set to strike on Tuesday of next week. The walkout is the second wave of action in a battle over pay.

Workers across 26 colleges in England last month voted by 89 percent for strikes over pay. The overall turnout was 48 percent.

Strikes could be start of further action

Workers at three London colleges have won above-inflation pay rises following strikes. And the deal will see the lowest-paid staff benefit the most.

A college principal resigned last week following an overwhelming vote of no confidence in him by workers.

UCU union members across six colleges are expected to strike over pay on 28 and 29 November.
