Crofton School About 50 teachers joined the picket line outside Crofton School in Lewisham, south east London, last week as they struck for a day over pay cuts. The cuts are a result of the implementation of new allowance payments for teachers, which means some face the loss of thousands of pounds a year. Strikers then travelled to Woolwich to join a protest outside the town hall against New Labour’s education White Paper. BBC Radio strike is called off Media unions at the BBC have called off strikes at BBC Radio after a new offer from management over changes to job descriptions.

Socialists in south east London were saddened to hear of the sudden death of SWP member Ray Dissington. An active trade unionist at Lewisham council until his redundancy, he had a real anger at the injustices of the system and despite difficulties due to a disability always came on demonstrations.

Court frees Lewisham two ALL OF the charges against two of the Lewisham Three, Rene Bravo and Marcela Massingnotti, were thrown out by the magistrate at Belmarsh last week. Rene and Marcela are the parents of a student and all three were taking part in peaceful anti-war activities on the day war broke out.

Strikers say no to redundancies

SOME 59 NUT union members at Crofton School in Lewisham, south London, took strike action on Thursday of last week. They are fighting against the redundancies of three teachers on annual contracts at the school.
