We’re told the jubilee is a “non-political” time of national celebration. But Gary Barlow, who has written the official jubilee single, is a raving Tory.

The Take That singer made a high profile intervention into the 2010 election.

Appearing with Cameron, he was asked if he was backing the Tories.

“I would not be here if I was not,” he replied.

That’s not the only Tory tendency Barlow has shown. While on a tour of the Commonwealth to get “inspiration” for the single, he was terrified of the foreigners he met.

When he travelled to the Solomon Islands he was scared that the natives were cannibals who were going to eat him.

“We were all white men and there were only eight of us,” he said.

“I really did think, ‘They’ve taken us all the way up the river and they could kill us and eat us alive and no one would know’.”
