Ice wages campaign of terror on US streets

As the US mainstream media focuses on the World Cup, Ice is on a murder spree. But people are fighting back on the streets.

Agents of Ice—the anti-migrant agency that has waged a campaign of terror on US streets—shot two unarmed civilians this month.

In Biddeford, Maine, Ice killers shot 25 year old Johan Sebastián Durán Guerrero on Monday of last week.

He was not the target of any Ice investigation and had immigration documents.

That didn’t stop Ice from pulling his car over anyway. The killers claimed that he attempted to run away and “fearing for public safety” one of them “discharged his weapon”.

Ice agents didn’t wear bodycams, but nearby surveillance cameras show that isn’t true.

In Houston, Texas, Ice killed Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, 54, in a traffic stop on 7 July. Araujo had lived in the US for 35 years and had three children, who were all born in the US and hold US citizenship. 

Araujo was driving to work that morning when he was pulled over by Ice agents driving unmarked cars.

When he didn’t stop, Ice agents shot him through the passenger side window while his co-workers watched in horror.

Three of his co-workers were then arrested after being forced to watch their friend die in front of them.

Houston has had more Ice arrests than any other US city.

Meanwhile, Venezuelan Jesús Manuel Arenas-Silva, 45, died on Wednesday while under ICE detention in Georgia.

Residents in Maine and Houston took the streets demanding justice for the latest victims of Trump’s terror campaign,

In Maine signs read, “How do you spell Nazi? Ice.” In Houston more than 1,000 protested and held signs reading, “Crush Ice,” and, “Ice out of Houston.”

While Houston City Hall debated and heard stories of over 100 Ice victims, protesters chanted, “Do your job!” at city officials.

A coalition of left wing groups, including the Democratic Socialists of America and Palestine activists, is calling for a day of action in Houston on Sunday.

They’ve also held Know Your Rights training sessions to teach ordinary people how to resist Ice terror.

A statement by Houston DSA says, “As Democratic Socialists we will not sit idly by as fascists continue to terrorize our neighbours.

“We are fighting every day to organise our communities to fight back against a cruel administration, to protect each other from state violence, and to build a better future that defends the humanity of all.”

Mass resistance, like we saw in Minneapolis, can force Ice to back down.

In January 50,000 people in Minneapolis joined an “economic shutdown” where they refused to go into work in protest against Ice.

It forced Trump to retreat from his terror campaign in the city that had killed Alex Pretti and Renée Good.
