Pathology staff at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading, are set to be balloted to strike in a dispute over reduced staffing levels and patient safety.

The 40 workers, who test and monitor blood and other specimens, are angry at management moving staff in haematology and transfusion, microbiology, biochemistry and specimen reception onto an all-day shift pattern.

The ballot opens on Thursday of this week and closes on 10 April.
