Several thousand Bedouins demonstrated in the Israeli city of Beersheva on Thursday of last week against the government’s Praver plan to dislocate them.
The plan is designed to get rid of “unrecognised” villages in the Negev desert where many Bedouins live a semi-nomadic existence.
The government claims its policy will “integrate” the Bedouins into Israeli society, but the Bedouins do not accept these claims.
Ibrahim al-Waqili is head of the Regional Council of Unrecognised Villages. “No one in the government consulted us about the Praver plan and we reject it,” he said.
“We are observing a general strike and demonstrating against this plan, which will displace more than 30,000 people.”
