The radical Left Bloc party in Portugal is initiating a “Marcha Pelo Emprego” [March for jobs] this week.
The march begins in Braga in the north of Portugal this Friday 1 September and continues through the country to finish in Lisbon, the capital, on Sunday 17 September.
Portugal is scarred by unemployment, low pay and lack of security and rights at work.
Activists on the march aim to put pressure on the centre left Socialist government and highlight how these problems are structured into capitalism.
The Left Bloc is also presenting an alternative economic strategy to deal with the problems.
