Anger as Honda suspends union rep

Workers at the Honda car firm’s Swindon plant are furious after management suspended senior Unite union rep Paddy Brennan last week.

They believe he has been suspended on “trumped-up charges” as part of an attack on the union.

This comes after the union beat a derecognition attempt and as management attempts to change a deal on double time payments for Saturday working.

“This is a union-busting move,” a Honda worker told Socialist Worker. “The union refused to renegotiate the deal on Saturday work.

“Now the company is asking workers not affected by the company’s proposal to agree on a massive pay cut for Saturday working on the production lines.”

Paddy was suspended after highlighting his concerns over this to Unite.

Union activists are now discussing what steps to take next to get Paddy reinstated.
