On Friday of last week over 100 lecturers and supporters took part in a march from Harlow college against redundancies and the imposition of new contracts.
The march took place as management told a number of lecturers to leave.
Over 100 members of staff have left – 34 given compulsory redundancies, 27 who refused to apply for the new posts and around 40 who chose to leave.
The college is now in meltdown
Over 50 percent of teaching posts vacant from the end of last week. Management’s attempt to isolate the union has instead led to a growing unity.
Management went round the college on Friday handing out contracts to the lecturers who were left – giving them seven days to sign.
Management have walked away from talks with the union, and the contracts still include cuts in pay and unlimited teaching hours.
A number of students and their families are now getting involved in the campaign.
There are also growing calls for local Labour MP Bill Rammell to side with students, parents and union members against these attacks, and for him to call an emergency meeting.
Lecturers still at Harlow college should not sign these new contracts.
There will be action in the new term if a fair contract is not agreed.
