Thousands of London Underground workers are to ballot for action over job cuts.
Bosses plan to slash 800 jobs from ticket offices and platform staff. This will have a severe impact on services and safety.
Bob Crow, RMT general secretary said, “It is only a matter of time now before TfL and London mayor Boris Johnson have a tragedy on their hands as a result of their cavalier disregard for public safety.
“The mayor gave assurances to the public on ticket offices and Tube staffing. It’s down to him to pull London Underground back from the brink.”
The union is also set to ballot workers over job losses at the Tube Lines contractor.
The company is engaged in a row with Johnson over funding which may impact on jobs, safety and conditions.
As yet there are no dates for the ballot, though it could see around 10,000 tube workers taking strike action.
