Around 300 people protested outside local libraries in Bury on Monday of last week against council plans to make cuts to the service. The council plans to shut a library in Unsworth, Whitefield.

Read-ins are being planned for 5 February to show how much libraries are needed by the communities they serve.

The read-ins will take place in Doncaster, Leeds, Lewisham, Brent, Cornwall, Oxfordshire and Gloucestershire.

Campaigners in Stony Stratford, on the outskirts of Milton Keynes took out their maximum allowance of books and emptied the library to illustrate what the cuts will do.
