Tensions are rising between workers and bosses at Breckland council in East Anglia.
During a meeting to discuss new performance related pay and mileage schemes last week, council human relations manager John Williams accused Unison union representative Zandra Waterford of “having a bad hair day”.
A number of staff at the 150 strong meeting left the room in protest at the “totally unprofessional” comments, curtailing the staff briefing aimed at quelling fears that employee views were being ignored.
The previous day a meeting of the council’s Unison members unanimously supported an indicative vote to ballot on industrial action.
The Dereham Times reports that many staff have also protested by returning chocolate bunnies given to the staff as Easter gifts by the council.
