The postal strike at Burslem, Stoke, is reaching a crucial point. On Monday over 100 workers at the delivery office finished a three-day strike. They have now struck for 15 days over a sacking of a 62-year-old worker for alleged aggressive behaviour towards a manager.
Royal Mail has reacted by bringing in some 150 managers on each of the latest strike days to cover the work. Although their incompetence and lack of knowledge has meant deliveries have not been up to standard, this is still a massive provocation.
Quite rightly the local branch has now requested that the entire Midland No7 branch should be balloted for action. This would bring out the whole Stoke area and, if its 900 workers struck, would bust Royal mail’s union-busting plans.
