A group of young parents and mothers-to-be in Newham, east London have forced their housing association to withdraw eviction notices.

East Thames housing association sent eviction notices to up to 29 women housed in Focus E15 mother and baby unit this summer.

They told the parents to leave by 20 October, blaming funding cuts.

They offered to rehouse some residents in Hastings or Birmingham—where none have any friends or family.

But it has backed down after a campaign.

One resident, Tresha, said, “It’s good we’ve come together.

“The last few weeks I’ve felt depressed—I’ve got no money for private accommodation but we’re all fighting for our rights.”
