Supporters of Karen Reissmann – the sacked nurse who spoke out about the dangers of cuts and privatisation in mental health services in Manchester – launched a legal defence fund this week.
Karen is taking her case for unfair dismissal to an Employment Tribunal and the fund will help to pay for her legal representation.
The case is due to commence on 26 January 2009.
The fund has already gained many patrons, including Tony Benn, Graham Pink who blew the whistle on NHS cuts in the 1980s, Paul Reed and Alan Hartman – from Manchester User Network – and MPs John Leech and John McDonnell.
Cheques to the fund should be made payable to the Karen Reissmann Legal Defence Fund and sent to Kathy Crotty, KRLDF treasurer, 181 St Mary’s Rd, Manchester M40 0BN
