Around 30 lecturers in the UCU union at Leeds College of Art and Design (LCAD) picketed their college on Wednesday of last week as part of their union’s “IOU” campaign to win the implementation of a nationally agreed pay rise.
Lecturers at the college earn around £6,000 a year less than they would elsewhere.
Union branch secretary Richard Miles said, “This campaign has brought in lots of new members. The branch has grown from about 20 a couple of years ago to 70 today.
“There are no meaningful negotiations with management at the college. We are the worst paid further education college in Yorkshire and the worst paid specialist art college in the country.
“On the other hand, the principal is one of the highest paid in the country.”
