The left has made some gains in the elections for the Unison union’s national executive council.
Some 16 of the left slate’s 39 candidates were elected.
New left wingers on the executive include SWP member Helen Davies of Barnet Unison, elected to a Greater London seat.
Bromley Unison’s Kathy Smith, also new to the executive, picked up a local government section seat.
And nurse and health service activist Karen Reissmann is back on the executive, winning a seat in the North West region.
The result reflects the feeling among members that the union needs to put up a bigger fight over attacks on workers and cuts.
The left executive members can play a role in this.
