The Tories are preparing a fresh assault on Travellers.
They want to use their Localism Bill, which had its second reading in parliament on Monday of this week, to stop Travellers from obtaining planning permission after having settled on land.
It also includes plans for an expanded national database of people prosecuted for “planning offences” to target “persistent offenders”—and to raise the maximum fine for offences from £1,000 to £2,500.
Travellers already face discrimination and racism, and the Tory plans will make things even worse.
The government is using the familiar spin that their bill “devolves power to communities”—but in reality it gives ministers 100 new powers.
