Nigel Farage blocked by protesters in Rotherham

A lively protest confronted Ukip leader Nigel Farage when he came to Rotherham today, Friday.

Farage had planned to cut the ribbon to open Ukip campaign headquarters in the town. But instead of his usual victory march in front of the media Farage was trapped inside the Ukip office.

Protesters were angry at Farage’s attempts to take advantage of the latest report on the child sex abuse scandal in Rotherham.

He said “something had gone badly wrong” in Rotherham and that the abuse was down to multiculturalism that had “divided not united”.

Chants of “Support the victims, don’t let racists divide us” echoed around the office.

Barnsley Central TUSC candidate Dave Gibson said that Ukip’s policies would not benefit cash strapped services to support victims of abuse.

The protest included a number of local people who had made up their own placards and were determined to stop Farage having his usual media outing.

One mother breastfed her baby in defiance at earlier comments Farage made that women should “sit in the corner” to breastfeed.

“I’m disgusted that Farage said we have to breastfeed our babies in a corner,” she said.

“He has nothing to offer us but hate.”
