A protest demanding David Cameron’s resignation laid siege to the Tories in central London today, Saturday.
Over 1,000 people joined the protest outside Downing Street following the revelation that Cameron had profited from an offshore bank account set up by his father.
But the protest was an expression of a much more deep seated anger against the Tories.
Alice Smith and Joanna Gibbs travelled from Chester to join the protest. Joanna told Socialist Worker, “Cameron’s damaging everything good about our society. The NHS, benefits, everything.”
Alice said, “He’s fucking the old, he’s fucking everybody who could possibly be ill in the future.
“I don’t know if he’ll resign, but we need to keep doing things like this.
She added, “Jeremy Corbyn is now more popular in the polls than Cameron for the first time.
“It’s the fact that he lied about it. This could be the straw that broke the camel’s back.”
The protesters marched from Downing Street to The Grand Connaught Rooms conference venue, where the Conservatives are holding their Spring Forum. Several top Tories, including Cameron, were speaking inside.
Protesters chanted “Cameron out” and “Resign”, blocking roads as they went.

They surrounded a car that had stickers for the pro European Union (EU) Conservative In campaign.
Inside the venue Cameron made a speech saying he was to blame for the Tories’ latest crisis.
He said, “Don’t blame Number 10 Downing Street or nameless advisers, blame me”
But college student Andrew, who joined the protest, said, “It’s not enough to get rid of Cameron. We need a new government.
“When Iain Duncan Smith resigned it exposed them.”
Junior doctor Jack agreed. He said, “I’m here to show opposition to this government of millionaires. The whole of the British Medical Association is now against the government.
“I’m not surprised by the revelations about David Cameron. He should resign.”
The protesters marched back to Downing Street and sat down in the road on Whitehall.
Paula Peters from Disabled People Against the Cuts (Dpac) told the sit down, “We got rid of IDS, now let’s get rid of the rest.
“Let’s make this the summer and autumn of discontent against this government.
“Wherever you are, occupy buildings and block the roads.”
