Rage at ban for school student who wears niqab

A school in central London has banned a student from attending because she wears a niqab.

More than 300 people have signed a petition calling on Camden School for Girls to “stop its Islamophobia” in the wake of the ban.

The niqab is a cloth veil which covers part of the face, revealing the eyes, that is worn by some Muslim women.

The petition says, “The student only started to wear the niqab this year, and even sat her GCSE exams wearing the veil. 

“But this time, when the student returned to the school wearing the niqab, a teacher claimed that she could not be allowed to study at the school.”

It goes on to say that the student was told “communication”, “health and safety” and “security” were the main reasons for the decision.

 Now she has been banned from attending the school, she has no interaction with teachers at all.

The petition asks, “Why should a personal choice of deciding to wear religious dress affect their education?”
