Civil service workers in Sheffield have launched a strike ballot against plans to close their office, which threatens over 200 jobs.

PCS union members at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) face compulsory redundancy if plans to relocate jobs to London go through.

The closure is part of a wider assault on the civil service, which threatens hundreds of jobs in departments such as HMRC.

They come as Tory ministers prepare to cut public sector redundancy pay.
