Striking workers in Southampton will rally on Monday of next week as they escalate their action against pay cuts.
The Unison and Unite unions have called the joint demonstration and rally for the day 70 street cleaners are set to begin a seven-day strike.
They will join another 170 council staff already on strike: 40 traffic wardens, 20 Itchen Bridge toll collectors and 110 refuse workers.
On the same day, 250 cleaners working for Medirest at Southampton General Hospital will also begin a seven-day strike (see page 14).
13 June will be the one day all five groups are out on strike together.
They will come together for the joint march on the council’s civic centre.
Action short of a strike continues across the council.
More than 600 came to a mass meeting last week, where they were backed by Unite general secretary Len McCluskey and Unison deputy general secretary Keith Sonnet.
“Our dispute is reaching a crucial stage,” said Unison branch secretary Mike Tucker. “Support our picket lines and the demonstration on 13 June. We need financial support.”
