Around 40 street lighting workers in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, struck on Friday of last week against attacks on pay.

The GMB union members are employed by outsourcer Amey on a contract to Sheffield City Council.

Peter Davis is the union’s regional officer. He said the company has “imposed new pay rates without consultation” and is refusing “to honour our recognition procedure and sick pay”.

More strikes are planned.
