The Unite union’s committee representing members in government departments and the Ministry of Defence has unanimously voted to reject the government’s ‘heads of agreement’ deal over pensions.
The vote means that all three sections of Unite involved in the pensions dispute – those in the civil service, health and local government pensions schemes – have decided on rejection of the deal.
Unite’s national industrial sector committee for Ministry of Defence and government departments met this afternoon (Wednesday).
A pensions analyst from the union examined the ‘heads of agreement’ deal and explained it was not offering anything new and would tie the hands of unions that signed up to it.
The mood on the committee was that members were ‘in it to win it’ and that workers should not have to work longer and pay more to receive less from their pensions schemes.
