UNIVERSITY STAFF are being consulted over a new pay offer. It is for a basic rise of 3.2 percent plus another 0.3 percent on average for transferring to a new pay scale. Lecturers and academic-related staff in the AUT and Natfhe unions will be consulted on the offer as will administrative staff in Unison.
The consultation will also cover the very low London weighting offer. Workers should vote no to the deal. Natfhe general secretary Paul Mackney says, ‘The offer falls a long way short of what is needed but is, we believe, the best that the employers had to offer.
‘It is now for members to decide whether they wish to reject the offer, which would entail taking industrial action.’ Union leaders should be campaigning to build the confidence to fight.
