Vote on Housing Regeneration Bill

The government’s Housing and Regeneration Bill was debated in parliament on Monday of this week.

28 Labour MPs rebelled to back an amendment calling for more resources to build new council houses and to repair existing stock.

The housing minister, Ian Wright, also agreed to institute a code of conduct after a number of cases where councils have bombarded tenants with misinformation aimed at persuading them to vote to transfer their homes to private organisations.

Private housing is insecure and unstable, and the case for council housing has never been stronger.

Across the country tenants have voted to keep and expand council housing.

The very least they can expect is the support of their elected MPs.
