Digital TV channel More4 is commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Miners’ Strike with an evening of documentaries on one of the most important class battles in British history.
Strike: When Britain Went To War (9pm) opens the evening, though it is not the strongest of the three documentaries.
It interviews “key figures” of the time – including former Labour leader Neil Kinnock, who helped betray the fight.
Ken Loach’s hard-hitting documentary Which Side Are You On? (11.10pm) was deemed “too partial” and was banned from television in 1985. This moving film looks at the songs and poems inspired by the strike.
Mike Figgis’s excellent hour‑long film The Battle Of Orgreave (12.15am) relives one of the most important confrontations during the strike.
It combines re‑enactment with actual footage.
It includes new interviews with those who were there – including miners and riot police.
