At a time when Royal Mail has told its workers that they are 25 percent overpaid, it has just announced this year’s bonuses for managers. These include: line manager bonus £1,460 after tax, delivery manager bonus £4,000 after tax and shift manager bonus £6,000 after tax.

This is on top of their salaries that are already at least twice what a postal worker receives.

Postal workers have, of course, already received their own bonus – a princely 92p a week!

Mark Baulch from the CWU national executive told Socialist Worker, “These payouts are outrageous.

“It shows the priorities of Royal Mail that the people who do the work and slog their guts out in all weathers are told to suffer pay cuts, while those who do the least are showered with money.

“I have no doubt this will simply strengthen the resolve of our members to fight for a just settlement.”
