Postal workers in Heanor, Derbyshire, staged a series of strikes recently against the closure of their office.
But in the end it was closed and the staff were transferred to Ilkeston. After this, Royal Mail suggested that the post office in Godfrey Street in Heanor would be a good place for residents to collect parcels.
A month later, the post office had to drop the service after being swamped by parcels. As a result, customers wishing to collect parcels now have to drive to Ilkeston.
Royal Mail was warned about the problems it would cause. Ilkeston sorting office is on an industrial estate making access even more difficult.
Once more cost-cutting triumphs and the service goes to the dogs.
