Schools handed to the privateers

EVERY SECONDARY school in Glasgow will be hit by privatisation under new plans approved by the Labour council. Councillors will allow a private consortium to refurbish and maintain all 29 of the authority’s schools for the next 29 years. The council will pay an annual fee of 40.5 million to a business group which includes the Halifax banking firm, the Miller Group construction company and the Hewlett Packard computer firm.
