The Tories thought that their “bonfire of the quangos” would be a pushover, and their Public Bodies Bill would have an easy passage through parliament.
This bill would give ministers absolute power to abolish, merge or privatise over 200 public bodies without any parliamentary scrutiny.
But a joint union campaign by workers in over 200 public bodies is growing.
This bill is an ideological attack on the public sector. It hands important services to private companies or “big society” volunteers.
But already the campaign against flogging off our forests has forced the government to withdraw the Forestry Commission from the bill.
Inspired by the student and UK Uncut protests and the growing anger against the Tories, united union opposition can defeat this bill.
