IT workers who maintain records for the Department for Work and Pensions have voted for industrial action over plans to offshore their work.

The workers in the PCS union are employed by Hewlett Packard on the government contract. They will refuse to

co-operate with the process of exporting work from Newcastle, Lytham and Sheffield to India.

The move could lead to the loss of more than 200 jobs.

Some 92.5 percent voted for industrial action short of a strike on a 47.6 percent turnout.
