The ERT workers have been bombarded with messages of support from media organisations around the world.

The National Union of Journalists and Chartered Institute of Journalists condemned the closure.

There were solidarity protests at the Greek embassy in London and at a number of BBC offices.

Up to 200 people rallied outside Broadcasting House in central London on Friday of last week.

Many Greek migrants joined the rally.

The ERT is a vital source of news from home for them.

“It’s an authoritarian attack against freedom of speech,” Maria, a Greek working in London, told Socialist Worker.

“The private channels are all controlled by the very rich—you can’t leave informing the public to them.”

The government has blocked ERT’s frequencies.

But the workers have continued to transmit on the internet.
