Some 1,300 bus workers at Stagecoach in Manchester have voted overwhelmingly to strike in their battle for better pay.
An impressive 94 percent of the workers, members of the Unite union, voted for strike action on a 66 percent turnout.
Bobby Morton, a Unite regional organiser, told Socialist Worker, “The vote is a very good mandate and reflects the strength of feeling among the membership over pay.”
Union representatives are set to meet management on Wednesday.
The Manchester dispute is one of a number of pay battles at Stagecoach.
At Stagecoach Yorkshire, 587 bus drivers, clerical staff and coach drivers are set to strike on Monday of next week over pay.
The action will shut down bus routes across Barnsley, the Dearne Valley and Kirklees.
There have already been strikes at Stagecoach North-east and Stagecoach Chesterfield earlier this year.
