A thousand construction workers are on strike at the Dragon Liquefied Natural Gas terminal site in Waterston, Milford Haven, Wales.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is launching an investigation to find out what caused a 40-year-old welder from engineering firm Ledwoods to lose consciousness at Dragon LNG jetty at last Sunday.

The man discharged himself from hospital on Monday. He had been suffering from breathing difficulties at the Waterston site before passing out.

The site was shut on Monday as a safety inspection was carried out and workers were able to return on Tuesday.

However, they met and decided not to return to work and went on strike at the site gates. Mass meetings will take place every day to decide whether the site is safe enough to return to work.

One worker said, ‘We expect keep striking on Thursday as nothing has been resolved. We have got a few promises over safety but we have heard them all before.’
