Greek students protest at cuts

Students in Greece have been protesting against attacks on our education.

The government is trying to expel 180,000 students from universities because of a new six year limit on studying.

Most of these students already have to work to pay for their studies. Now they are being kicked out.

The universities budget has been cut by 70 percent over the last five years.

We don’t have enough books or enough teachers. And they are bringing in private firms to replace cleaners and other staff who they sacked last year.

Now there are student assemblies in every university, and occupations in hundreds of schools.

We had demonstrations in the major cities on Thursday of last week.

School and university students protested alongside teachers and university workers.

We are arguing for more action next week for the anniversary of the uprising against the dictatorship.

We want another round the week after that when there is a general strike, so students will be together with workers.
